Managing today’s world of work can be demanding and everchanging.  The scope of management covers four domains: leadership, self-management, people management and management practices.

Underpinning all of this is the ability for a leader to be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and teams in an emotionally intelligent manner.  Wellness has become a priority, especially in the challenging times that business face in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ability for leaders to motivate themselves and the team and managing stress levels is key for the business to continue to survive and thrive.

What you will learn in this course!

As part of developing the leadership domain, learners completing this skills programme will be introduced to key concepts, principles and practices of basic leadership and management skills to:

  • Define leadership and the concept of it is explained with examples;
  • Differentiate between the concepts of leadership and management;
  • Identify when to manage and when to lead in a work context;
  • Explain the role and characteristics of a leader in an organisation;
  • Apply leadership techniques to individuals and teams within the work context;
  • Take corrective actions, where appropriate, to improve the effectiveness of the individual or team;
  • Explain the importance of motivating a team;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of self and team members in a workplace;
  • Identify motivating indicators in a team;
  • Applying theories of motivation and group dynamics;
  • Implementing a plan of action to strengthen and motivate a team;
  • Provide feedback and recognise team achievements;
  • Explain the principles of emotional intelligence with reference to examples from life and work situations;
  • Motivate the positive and negative impact of emotional intelligence through examples on intrapersonal and interpersonal level;
  • Apply techniques for improving own emotional intelligence in relation to development areas identified;
  • Develop an understanding of stress in the workplace, triggers and how to manage it effectively for oneself and the team.
