RPL is fast becoming a way to formalise learning where a person with actual experience and extended work expertise may not have been able to (throughout their career and work life) qualify themselves in their relevant work discipline or area of skill.

RPL is not shortcut to a qualification.   While training may not be the formal intervention, an RPL learner still needs to be supported in their own learning process by means of collecting and providing evidence for assessment (from a workplace/employer and Skills Development Provider perspective).

In terms of Generic Management NQF level 5, we will follow the same curriculum that we train formally for RPL candidates to collect evidence against.  In this way we can close gaps where informal or prior learning does not meet the outcomes.  This blended approach, along with scheduled RPL sessions allows for RPL learners to work together and support each other in their evidence building processes.   Learners can also self-study for gaps but a fee for supplying learning material and support (which will be needed) will still apply.

The National Certificate: Generic Management, NQF Level 5 forms part of a learning pathway of management qualifications across various sectors and industries. This will enable learners to lead, manage, organise and control first line managers and team leaders. People who have management experience in managing others or who have other junior managers or team leaders reporting to them.

The scope of generic management covers five domains: leadership, managing the environment, managing relations, managing knowledge and the practice of management.
